Fire Project Sample Resolution
Committee: Political Rights
Topic: “Understanding the role of women and children in rebuilding a nation”
The General Assembly,
Deeply concerned by the un-ratification of all agreements that further women's rights,
Realizing the electoral gender quota system, which sets up a quantitative recommendation for the minimum representation of either sex,
Encouraging closing the gender gap in education and political life by eliminating illiteracy and legal political and social barriers to women: and ensuring equal representation of women in aid programs,
Affirming the enforcement of laws on the minimum age of consent and marriage for women,
Stressing that survivors of the genocide are then forcibly relocated to "peace camps," where the young are taken away from their parents and sent to other camps for indoctrination by Islamic fundamentalists,
Taking into account that the United Nations has sent a human rights investigator, Gerhart Baum, to Sudan,
1. Proposes a bill to push administration into rescuing Hassan Turabi, "the Sorbonne-educated éminence grise of radical Islam in Sudan," who is now in prison after his arrest several weeks ago for signing a memorandum of understanding with rebels in the south;
2. Applauds the U.N. Children's Fund for airlifting more than 2,800 demobilized child soldiers away from the front lines in southern Sudan, but urges the help of ally countries to help the U.S. National Guard in stopping the violence;
3. Suggests the importation of Sudanese women and children to schools in the Europe and the United States;
4. Demands the electoral quota system be dropped with no minimum representation of sexes;
5. Expresses the hope of forming an agreement to help rebuild Sudan and implement equal rights for men and women in government.
