What is the Fire Project?
An independent, self-directed project completed and presented by the end of your senior year.
What kind of project can I do?
Each student is free to design his/her own Fire Project. There are certain restrictions. However, if all requirements can be met and the project is legal, safe and appropriate, and the project advisor approves, you may begin your project.
Who decides whether the project is safe, legal, and appropriate?
Your project advisor will determine the appropriateness of all Proposals.
How long should my project take?
The due date for your project, along with other dates can be found on the Google Calendar on the homepage of this website.
Can I work with a partner on my Senior Project?
No; all components of the project must be completed independently. This is a culmination of individual learning.
What are the individual requirements of my project?
Can I use previous class work to satisfy the Senior Project requirements?
No, you may use other work as a starting point, but the Senior Project is an independent project that must stretch beyond your current understanding of a topic.
Who will evaluate each of the above?
How will I be evaluated?
Each component of the project will be evaluated by the Project Advisor or the Review Panel according to rubrics found in the rubrics section of the website. The final grade is Pass/Fail. However, all phases of the Fire Project will also be counted as a grade in multiple classes.
When do I have to have my Fire Project completed?
Your Fire Project must be revised and ready for presentation by May 31st, 2015
What if my proposal is not approved?
If your plan is not approved, you must re-evaluate your project plans and design another proposal.
Can I start working once my proposal is approved?
Yes, you may begin working as soon as your proposal is approved, although you are not required to start working on your project until January of your senior year. Regardless of when you begin, all deadlines must be met.
Can I submit any components early?
Your advisor may approve early submission depending on the product outcome. Speak to your advisor early if early submission is necessary. However, no student will be permitted to proceed to another phase of the project without successfully completing the previous one.
What if I want to change my project after I submitted an approved Plan?
No change will be made after approval of your project proposal has been given.
Will I be given time in class to work on my project?
You will be given time in your regularly scheduled classes to work on the product for your project.
How do I get help when I need it?
The Fire Project team is still exploring ways to support students, but your mentor would be a great place for advice.
What if I do not meet standard on my project?
You will fail to graduate.
What if I don’t submit a project? Is there a possibility I will not graduate?
You will not graduate from Social Justice High School if you fail to meet the standards on any component of the Fire Project. In order to graduate from Social justice high school, every student must pass all 7 phases of the fire project.
Are Re-Do’s possible?
Students may not redo the whole project, but if a portion of it does not meet the standards, he/she will be allowed to redo that portion.
